今回は、アメリカ合衆国では2009年に劇場公開された、「All About Steve」から。

英語での説明も交えつつ、英語の表現を学んでゆきましょう！

So, this entry is all about the movie: "All About Steve".

邦題は「ウルトラ I LOVE YOU!」

To tell you the truth, I genuinely love BOTH titles. Maybe I like the Japanese title better.  

あ、内容はですね、何というか…

I'm not sure if this movie is a chick-flick or dick-flick or somewhere in between or whatever, but you can just watch this movie casually. Def and unmistakably a comedy, no big crying or huge tears, nor anyone gets killed. So kick back, relax, and just turn this movie on. 

とても気軽に観られるという点が、大好きなコメディー映画です。

This movie was released in 2009 in theaters in the US. 

and I say this from the deepest bottom of my heart, it's so sad that this film was only released with DVD in Japan.

This film was proudly nominated for five categories of Golden Raspberry Awards, only to win just 2 out of 5. I'm telling you, this movie deserves all of the five awards nominated.

ゴールデンラズベリー賞。or shortened as Razzies or Razzie Awards.

その年の、最も、素晴らしくなかった作品へ授与されます。

アカデミー賞（the Oscars）の前夜に通常、授賞式が行われるという、権威ある（？）賞ですね。

そんな点からも、邦題は素晴らしいと思います。

読んで一瞬で、あぁ、ラジー賞、うんうん、だよねー、って印象受けるじゃないですか？！

なお、原題の All About Steve についても、you will see the meaning of the title after 30 minutes in or so if you don't give up and keep watching this film.

少し映画からズレますが、ラズベリー。

日本ではあんまり、スーパーとかで「ラズベリー」とドーンと果物コーナーにはないですよね。冷凍とか缶詰では見かけますが。

海外ではどうなんでしょうね？量り売りとかしてるのかな？

ベリー系で言えば、日本ではイチゴがやっぱりメイン。

その Strawberry には、そういう印象は無いらしいのですが…　

印象というか、表現での使われ方が日本語と英語で真逆な果物もあります。

例えば、レモン。

日本だとレモンスカッシュ！レモンサワー！的な爽やか・サッパリ！な良いイメージですけど、英語では結構、反対だったりします。

IF you google with keywords like "lemon" and "expressions" or "idioms"... you know what I mean.

今回改めて調べると、いやぁ…　レモンが可哀そう。ドイヒーです、英語での扱い。

で、話しを戻してラズベリー。

ラズベリーそのものに、レモンほどドイヒーな使われ方は無さそうなのですが、

"Blowing a raspberry" という表現がありましてですね…（しないで下さいね、特にコロナ禍の今したら…汗）

別映画ですが、よく、ミニオン達がお互いに向かってくちびるをブルブルさせながら息を吐き出す、あれです。

基本的に、良い表現やジェスチャーではないので、なさらぬよう。

そんな表現の呼び名としても使われてしまうのも、ワーストナンバー１の賞の名前として「ラズベリー」が入っている理由なのでしょうか。

Officially, it seems the origin of the awards name, or the expression of "blowing a raspberry", both are totally random, and there's no clear relation between those expressions and raspberry. It appears to be ambiguous.

レモンはともかく、ラズベリーにとっては、まさに青天の霹靂というやつですね…

そのラジー賞授賞式にまで、受賞のため主演女優として堂々と出向いたのが、サンドラ姐さんこと、サンドラ・ブロックさん。

And she is one of the very few who won both Razzie and Oscar in the same year. She won the Academy Award for the Best Actress with "the Blind Side" the day after Razzie.

全く面識も何もないのに、失礼を承知で、愛情を込めてファーストネームでもう一度。

サンドラ姐さん。

Sandra was hilarious in "All About Steve". Her performance went over the top (in a good way), and I truly think the actors, their acting, plot and everything in and about this movie were... not so bad. In fact, I got a bit emotional at the end of the movie.

職業：クロスワード作家、というかなりレアな設定に加えて、ずーっと喋り続けている少し（かなり？）ウザいメアリー役の巧いこと。

ただし、クロスワード作家だけあって、物知りです。彼女の説明をじっくり聞くだけでも、英語学習としてはとても役に立つはずです。

テレビ局員たちが多かれ少なかれイケイケ（死語）で、テレビ局員以外の人たちを少し下に見ている感じというのは、日米共通なのかもしれないとか。

一方、the people who usually and sadly tend to be called "nerds" or "weirdos" are portrayed in detail with nice intention and affection, or so I felt. At least I did not feel uncomfortable with the way those non-TV personnel people appeared in the movie.

そして、そんな人たちに、であれ誰であれ何に、であれ、真向正面から堂々ガチ勝負（っても試合じゃないですが）で向かってゆく、接するメアリー。

She always is so energetic and I think she really is a sincere person.

有り余るパワーに満ち満ちた役を、サンドラ姐さんが嬉々として演じていて、観てるこっちまで元気になります。

相手役は今をときめくイケメンスターの Bradly Cooper, and Ken Jeong is playing one of hsis colleagues. 

その他、あまり見ない俳優さんが多いですが、どの方々も少し素人っぽい感じが（演技ですよね、はい）この映画にピッタリ合っています。

I wouldn't say this movie is worth the Oscars or Golden Globe, but I don't think this is such a bad one, either. There are lots of humor, fun characters, funny characters, impossible accidents, and just a bit of bittersweet moments.

Too much of bits of everything? Maybe so. But still, I can't help watching this movie, over and over, again and again, especially when I feel empty or don't feel like doing anything.

After all, Mary is a crossword puzzle writer and she is out and proud and happy as she is.

今回の映画の内容が内容だけに、少しスラング寄りな内容になりました。

いわゆる日常会話だったり、映画やドラマでの何気ない台詞って、ほぼスラングだけだったりするんですよね。

外国人、外国語としてこちらから使うことはあまりないかもしれませんし、使う時には時と場所に気を付けないといけませんけど、聞く分には分かったほうがいいですからね。
